MRIM at ImageCLEF2012. From Words to Concepts: A New Counting Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
MRIM research group has participated in two tasks (ad-hoc image-based retrieval and case-based retrieval) of the ImageCLEF2012 Medical Retrieval track. In our contribution, we study the frequency shift problem that happens when using concepts instead of words as indexing terms. The main goal of our experiments is to check the validity of our new counting strategy of concepts (Relative Count), which is proposed as a solution to the frequency shift problem. In order to validate our new counting strategy, we compare the retrieval performance (represented by MAP) of some classical IR models using the classical counting strategy (count each concept as 1) with their performance using the new strategy. The results are promising, and using the new counting strategy shows a considerable gain in performance. We use in our experiments two supplementary resources: MetaMap as a text-to-concepts mapping tool, and UMLS as an external resource containing concepts.

LIG-MRIM at NTCIR-12 Lifelog Semantic Access Task
This paper describes the participation of the LIG-MRIM research team to the Lifelog Semantic Access sub-task of the NTCIR-12 (2016). Our approach mainly relies on mapping the query terms to visual concepts computed on the Lifelogs images according to two separated learning schemes. A post-processing is then performed if the topic is related to temporal, location or activity information associat...

Children's Rights and the New Evaluation Approach in Iran M. Hassani, Ph.D. Schools are among highly valued social institutions wherein the new generations' way to progress is paved. As such, they must operate in a way that promotes and protects children's basic rights. One area of operation in schools is evaluation. Hence, it too needs to be in accordance with the children's rights c...
متن کاملA suggested Motivational Method for Teaching Scientific Terminology, With a Practical Example
Using a reductionist approach, the motivational method for teaching scientific terminology aims at breaking down terms and their definitions into separate components, i.e. morphemes and their semantic features, rather than establishing a connection between terms and their definitions as holistic units. In other words, the ultimate goal of this method is achieving “semantic motivation,” (as oppo...
متن کاملMRIM-LIG at ImageCLEF 2016 Scalable Concept Image Annotation Task
This paper describes the participation of the the MRIM research Group of the LIG laboratory in the ImageCLEF scalable concept image annotation subtask 1. We made use of a classical framework to annotate the 500K images of this task: we tuned an existing Convolutional Neural Network model to learn the 251 concepts and to locate bounding boxes of such concepts, and we applied a specific process t...
متن کاملMulti-Round Influence Maximization (Extended Version)
In this paper, we study the Multi-Round Influence Maximization (MRIM) problem, where influence propagates in multiple rounds independently from possibly different seed sets, and the goal is to select seeds for each round to maximize the expected number of nodes that are activated in at least one round. MRIM problem models the viral marketing scenarios in which advertisers conduct multiple round...
